Peradeniya Road, Kandy
Five wooden courts from LKR 600, booked through the council's own portal. Nothing in Colombo comes close.

Five wooden courts to international standard on Peradeniya Road, run by the municipal council, at a rate Colombo cannot touch. If you are anywhere near Kandy this is the best value badminton in the country, and the floor is better than most private halls charging twice as much. Booking is done through the council's own online portal rather than by phone, and the rules are stricter than a private hall's: hourly slots open only seven days ahead, a court admits a maximum of ten players, and overrunning your slot costs LKR 500 for every five minutes. The stadium is closed on Poya days, which move with the lunar month, so check the date before you plan around it. The hall also takes whole-venue bookings for tournaments — from LKR 65,000 for half a day — and being a council facility it hosts other events too, so the badminton calendar gets displaced occasionally. Confirm the hall is actually free before travelling.

Badminton starts at LKR 600 per court-hour on the booking portal. The sports page still advertises "From LKR 750/hr" — that figure is out of date; book through the portal. Rates vary by slot and by whether the session is training or competition, so 600 is a floor. Whole-venue hire is separate: from LKR 65,000 for a six-hour half day, LKR 100,000 for a twelve-hour full day, both on a LKR 25,000 refundable deposit.
Call 081 222 2322. Like most halls in Sri Lanka there is no online booking — phone or WhatsApp is how it is done, and evening slots go first.
LKR 600 an hour per court at the time we checked. Split between four players that is modest, but confirm when you call — rates move and peak evening pricing is common.
Wooden — more grip and easier on the knees, which is why tournament halls use it. Ventilation is fans.
There is no coaching listed at this venue, so beginners may do better somewhere with a coach on site. Kandy has other options if this one does not suit.
