Badminton tournaments in Sri Lanka.
The all-island circuit and the nationals, with dates and venues. Sri Lanka Badminton publishes the fixtures but not the entry fees or deadlines — so the gaps below are real, not oversights.

03Did not happen
Cancelled.
Both of Sri Lanka's BWF-sanctioned international events were called off in 2026. Listed because people still search for them.
04The governing body
Who runs all this.
Sri Lanka Badminton runs the domestic game from 28 Maitland Place, Colombo 07, through nine provincial associations and five sectoral bodies — Mercantile, Government Services, Defence Services, Nationalized Services and Schools. The provincial associations host the all-island opens that make up most of the calendar above.
Entry runs through SLB’s own portal and needs a player ID. Be warned that the portal is a single-page app which serves nothing to search engines, so open events are effectively invisible to Google — you will not stumble across them, you have to go looking.

05Questions
Questions players actually ask.
How do I enter a badminton tournament in Sri Lanka?
Through Sri Lanka Badminton’s registration portal, which requires a player ID. The portal is a single-page app that search engines cannot read, so you will not find open events by Googling — go directly to the site, or call SLB on +94 112 686 264.
What does it cost to enter?
Not published. SLB’s calendar lists names, dates and cities and nothing else — no categories, no entry fees, no deadlines, for any domestic event. You have to call and ask, which is as frustrating as it sounds.
What happened to the 2026 international tournaments?
Both were cancelled. The Sri Lanka International Series (9–15 March) was postponed and then cancelled, and the International Challenge (16–22 March) was cancelled too. Badminton Asia and the BWF Members’ Forum report both confirm it.
What is an "all island open"?
A national-entry tournament hosted by one of the nine provincial associations. They rotate around the country through the year — Kurunegala in February, Galle, Colombo, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Kandy — and are the main competitive circuit for club players.
Are there rankings?
Yes. SLB publishes Open, Junior and Veterans rankings on its own site. They are not especially easy to find, so we link them directly below.
Running a tournament?
Open draws, club opens and school meets all get listed free. Send the dates, venue, categories and entry fee — the details that normally only reach a closed WhatsApp group.
