Welagedara Stadium

The municipal stadium on Dambulla Road, and the first Kurunegala venue we have traced. Three synthetic courts at LKR 500 an hour make it the cheapest badminton we have found anywhere in Sri Lanka — less than a third of what a comparable hall costs in Colombo — with parking and toilets on site, and it runs from eight in the morning until ten at night, so the weekday evening slot is covered. It is a genuine sports stadium rather than a private hall, so it hosts provincial tournaments and the courts are a real standard. The limitation is reaching it: there is no published phone number and no booking page, so you cannot check availability before setting off and turning up is the practical approach. With three courts and a rate this low, expect the evenings to be busy.
