03Reading the numbers

What moves the price.

Court hire in Sri Lanka is charged per court per hour, not per player. A hall at LKR 1,050 is about LKR 263 each for four people for an hour, which is why badminton remains one of the cheaper ways to get a hard workout in Colombo.

Evening pricing is the biggest single variable. Nearly every hall charges more between six and nine, because that is when everyone wants to play and supply does not move. If your schedule is flexible, a daytime slot at the same venue is often materially cheaper than the headline rate.

The cheapest court is not automatically the best value. Floor type and ventilation change the game more than a few hundred rupees does — a wooden floor is easier on your knees, and a hall that bakes in the afternoon is unpleasant at any price. Both are listed in the table above for exactly that reason.

Every rate here was read or confirmed on the date shown. Rates move, and we would rather show you when we checked than imply a number is current forever. If you are quoted something different, tell us and we will update it.

04Questions

Questions people actually ask.

How much does a badminton court cost in Colombo?

Between LKR 900 and LKR 1,200 per court per hour across the 2 venues in Colombo whose rates we have verified. The middle of the market is around LKR 1,050 an hour. That is per court, not per player — split four ways it is roughly LKR 263 each.

What is the cheapest badminton court in Colombo?

Shuttle Power, at LKR 900–1,200 an hour when we checked on Verified 19 Oct 2026. Rates move, and evening slots are commonly priced higher, so confirm when you call.

Is the price per person or per court?

Per court, per hour. This is the single most common misunderstanding about badminton pricing in Sri Lanka, and it is why the sport is cheap as a group activity — four players split one court fee.

Why do some Colombo venues charge more after 6 PM?

Because that is when every hall in the country fills. The 6–9 PM window is the only time many working players can get on court, so venues price it accordingly. Daytime rates are often materially lower.
