By price
Court hire here is priced per court per hour, not per player — so a hall at LKR 1,000 split between four people is around LKR 250 each for an hour of hard exercise. These are the venues we have verified below that line.

02What it means
Municipal and stadium halls dominate this list, and that is not an accident: they are run by councils rather than as businesses, so they price to cover costs instead of to make a margin. The trade-off is usually booking friction — shorter hours, no online anything, and a phone that is answered only during office hours.
Nearly every hall in the country charges more after 6 PM, because that is when everyone wants to play. A venue listed here at an off-peak rate may sit above the line in the evening, so treat these as the daytime price and confirm the evening rate when you call.
Where we show a range, the lower figure is the off-peak rate. Where a venue published no rate at all, it is not on this page — we would rather leave a hall off a price list than guess at what it charges.
03Questions
Roughly LKR 500 an hour at the cheapest municipal halls, up to several thousand at private air-conditioned venues in Colombo. Most private halls in the Western Province sit between LKR 900 and LKR 1,500, and nearly all of them charge more after 6 PM.
Per court, per hour. That is why badminton is cheap here as a group activity — four players splitting a LKR 800 court pay LKR 200 each for the hour.
Because Colombo rents are what they are. The cheapest halls in the country are council-run buildings in Kandy, Kurunegala and similar, where the venue is a public facility rather than a commercial one.
Not necessarily. Several of the cheapest halls here have wooden floors, which is the surface tournaments are played on. What you usually give up is convenience — older buildings, shorter opening hours, and booking only by phone.
