Two wooden courts inside the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, the Colombo 08 sporting club better known for the Test cricket played next door at the P. Sara Oval. The hall is a converted shed rather than a purpose-built badminton centre: dark green walls, a high roof on exposed steelwork, and a louvred upper wall doing the ventilation. The timber floor is well worn and genuinely fast. Two courts side by side mean eight players can rotate, which suits a regular group better than a single-court hall. The thing to know before you book is structural. Round columns stand inside the playing surround, one of them close enough to a side tramline to matter on a wide clear, and several light fittings hang low over the tramlines rather than clear of the net line. Neither is unusual in a converted club hall, but both change how you play the corners and they are worth seeing before you commit to a weekly slot.
